Sterile neutrinos and the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe ((05) N06)
Subject Area
Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Fields
Term
from 2017 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 283604770
The origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe is among the most intriguing unresolved questions in physics. Due to their small interaction strength, sterile right-handed neutrinos may be responsible for the out-of-equilibrium conditions that are necessary in order to generate an asymmetry in the early universe through the mechanism of leptogenesis. In this project, we will develop methods based on non-equilibrium field theory to predict the asymmetry, apply these to specific models and investigate the phenomenological consequences. In this way we will complement the experimental and the other theoretical investigations of the neutrino sector pursued within this CRC.
