We study human rare diseases of the blood and the immune system with the aim to reveal molecular mechanisms of haematopoiesis and immunity. We are particularly interested in investigating the dynamics of intracellular transport within innate immune cells. To analyse and quantify these complex and rapid processes, a state-of-the-art high-resolution laser-confocal microscope with the possibility to perform live-cell imaging constitutes an essential core equipment. In summer 2015, a basic confocal microscope that had been present in the KUBUS Research Center was moved to the University of Düsseldorf together with the group of Prof. Ensenauer. A basic confocal microscope belonging to AG Endres is available, yet this microscope is heavily used and is not equipped with high sensitivity detectors. However, to advance our ongoing and planned projects (funded by DFG, ERC, BMBF and others), additional microscope time and a device offering the latest technical advancements, high resolution capacities and optimal detector quality are indispensable prerequisites. Not only the applicant, but also the co-applicants from across the disciplines represented in the KUBUS Research Center depend on and will highly profit from the microscope.
