Project Details
Spatiotemporal dynamics of a membrane-associated RNA-binding protein and its cargo in Vibrio cholerae (P15)
Subject Area
Metabolism, Biochemistry and Genetics of Microorganisms
Term
from 2017 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 269423233
In this project, we will characterize a novel RNA-binding protein encoded on the chromosome of the major human pathogen Vibrio cholerae. This protein, named MbrA (membrane-bound RNA-binding protein A), localizes to the cytoplasmic membrane and binds cellular RNA through a conserved RRM-type RNA-binding domain. Cells deficient for MbrA fail to perform intercellular communication, suggesting that subcellular localization of RNAs could affect complex behaviour in V. cholerae.
