Much of the economic progress and the well-being of people is determined by innovation. In this project, we ask how firms with different organizational structures vary regarding the content and quality of their innovations, and how this is affected by potential behavioral biases of firms and inventors. In the first funding period, we explored how various types of firms differ in their production of innovations and how this is related to their size and/or ownership structure. In the next funding period, we plan to continue exploring these questions with the help of new data and new methods. We will extend the focus of our research by studying whether and why the type and content of innovations differ across types of firms.
