The synthesis of main-group molecules with coordination numbers and oxidation states lower than those commonly observed is a goal of an increasing number of chemists worldwide, due to their inherent synthetic challenge and their interesting further applications in organic, coordination and catalytic chemistry. Recently, we discovered a broad synthetic protocol for the synthesis of electron-rich monovalent boron species, work that was published in the prestigious journal Nature. This proposal is based on our new access to B(I) species, and will involve the full exploration of the scope of the reaction as well as the further reactivity of the compounds.
