Project Details
Crosstalk of myeloid cells and neural stem cells during regeneration after stroke (B01)
Subject Area
Molecular and Cellular Neurology and Neuropathology
Term
from 2017 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 259373024
Inflammation orchestrates tissue remodelling and exerts a complex influence on neural stem/precursor cells (NSPCs) in the adult brain. Focusing on microglia and blood-borne macrophages, we plan to clarify the role of NSPC-inflammatory cell crosstalk with respect to its functional significance and underlying molecular signals, to identify candidates for therapeutic strategies, and assess their efficacy in stroke models. We believe that a better understanding of NSPC-myeloid crosstalk could advance the exploration of endogenous neurogenesis for the regeneration after stroke and other inflammatory conditions of the nervous system.
