Optimization of combustion mixtures for shockless explosion combustion (A08)

Subject Area Energy Process Engineering
Term from 2016 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 200291049

In this project selected fuels and fuel blends are characterized regarding their auto-ignition behavior at elevated pressures. The chemical ignition delay times of homogeneous, gaseous combustion mixtures is determined in a high-pressure shock tube, whereas physico-chemical ignition delay times after liquid injection are measured in a high-temperature-high-pressure combustion chamber. Through a combination of experimental investigations and 0D and 1D numerical simulations relevant time scales are optimized, in order to support the realization of the quasi-homogeneous auto-ignition in shockless explosion combustor (SEC).
