Within this project, we aim to study spin-spin interactions between ions held in surface-electrode trap arrays. The spin degree of freedom is encoded in hyperfine states with a long coherence time, and the effective spin-spin interaction is provided by chip-integrated microwave circuitry. Among others, this allows us to implement Ising Hamiltonians; here we aim to study the effect of additional dissipative elements. We will explore the connection to computational phases of quantum matter and measurement-based quantum computing and implement elementary models of quantum error correction techniques for applications in metrology.
