Project Details
Functional neuroanatomical and neurobiological modulators of interactive effects of volitional control and automatisms (B08)
Subject Area
Biological Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience
Term
from 2016 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 178833530
While so far project B08 separately investigated modulatory effects of fronto-striatal catecholamines and GABA/glutamate on interactions of controlled and automatic processes, we will now focus on interactions of these neurotransmitters. To this end, we will assess effects of interindividual baseline GABA/glutamate levels on pharmacological manipulations of catecholaminergic signaling. To elucidate functional and neural mechanisms underlying the investigated catecholaminergic effects, we will use brain stimulation to examine to what extent effects are mediated by modulations of a neuronal ‘gain’ parameter. We expect that results will help to understand dysregulations of control and automatisms in mental disorders.
