Maintenance of a functional mitochondrial network in neurons depends upon highly regulated mitochondrial dynamics. While mutations of genes implicated in mitochondrial dynamics cause neurological and degenerative disorders, it remains unclear how these processes regulate physiological changes at synapses. Here, we will tackle this question by combining super-resolution live imaging, P-proteomics screenings, and mouse genetics to unveil how changes in mitochondrial dynamics and function at dendritic spines are coupled with the induction of synaptic plasticity.
