Project Details
Adsorption of organic acids on oxide surfaces and nanostructures (A07)
Subject Area
Physical Chemistry of Solids and Surfaces, Material Characterisation
Term
from 2016 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 192346071
The goal of this subproject is the investigation of the controlled adsorption of organic molecules such as formic and oleic acid on magnetite single crystal surfaces at the atomic scale. This is of utmost importance for a fundamental understanding of the properties of nanocomposit materials. As a main result, we could show that the adsorption geometry of formic and oleic acid on Fe3O4(001) and (111) differs significantly. In the next funding period we plan to transfer the knowledge gained from the investigation of planar surfaces to organic molecule adsorption on epitaxial Fe3O4 and TiO2 nanoparticles with well-defined size and shape.
