Project Details
Non-equilibrium dynamics of nanoscopic objects for competing processes (A03)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics

We analyze the non-equilibrium dynamics of metastable charge states and excited states by means of pump-probe experiments with a scanning tunneling microscope (STM). Thereby, the charge carrier dynamics and the luminescence of single atoms, molecules and small clusters shall be analyzed as a function of the local environment. Two experimental strategies will be applied. To obtain time resolution down to 1 ns, all electronic pump-probe measurements are performed. In parallel we will develop and build an experiment in which THz radiation is coupled into the STM to allow for pump-probe experiments in the ps range.
