The central goal of this project is the precise determination of properties of highly charged ions. The focus is on electron binding energies and g-factors. The systems studied range from systems with a single electron where quantum electrodynamic (QED) corrections are important to systems with a few to several electrons where strong electron correlations become the leading source of corrections to energy levels. Theoretically we will calculate the electron binding energies using numerically exact solutions within a finite Hilbert space (RAS-CI). We will extend these methods by deriving renormalized interactions within the active space due to fluctuations into virtual states, thereby improving one of the most accurate methods available for few-electron systems.
