In this project, we will experimentally and theoretically investigate how nonadiabatic periodic driving and tailored dissipation can be used to induce topological effects in open lattices. In particular, we will study the properties of the driven, non-Hermitian Rice-Mele model near its exceptional point and use two-frequency driving to generate an edge state in the 2D Floquet frequency space. Moreover, we will study the topological properties of the non-Hermitian Aubry-Andre-Harper model. Experimentally, we will employ waveguide arrays with tailored absorption profiles to implement the open lattices and use the Floquet-Keldysh formalism for their theoretical description.
