Project Details
Geophysical prospecting, classification and validation of settlement remains in changing environments (G02)
Subject Area
Geodesy, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, Cartography
Term
from 2016 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 290391021
Project G2 explores the remains of material cultural expressions using geophysical prospection and combines the geophysical data with archaeological proxies, towards the reconstruction of societal transformation processes. The project developed new methodology for determining spatial distribu-tion of the remains of houses, which enables reconstruction of the settlement patterns, size and layout of houses and offers a 3D perspective of the settlement structure. In Phase 2, this new methodology will be applied on multi-phase settlements with complex stratigraphies and histories, such as settlement mounds, and identify patterns in the settlement structure as indicators of social transfor-mations.
