Dynamics of interacting Rydberg excitons in inhomogeneous structures

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2016 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 316159498

The main objective of this theory project is to investigate the dynamics of interacting Rydberg excitons in the semiconductor Cu2O considering inhomogeneous structures. Within this project, the planned three work packages are clearly explained, also indicating possible problems that might be encountered and how to solve them. It is a solid, very interesting and exciting theoretical research project. The excellent results obtained during the first funding period, combined with the experience and knowledge of the PI, will allow this group to successfully achieve the ambitious goals included in this research proposal. Furthermore, this project is also based on a close collaboration between the proposals of the two experimental groups working on Rydberg excitons from Dortmund and Stuttgart. The theoretical studies and goals included in this project are devoted to explain and explore these experimental works. The PI is an excellent and well established scientist in this field, with a long experience on investigating Rydberg excitons.Altogether, this project is seen a very strong addition to this priority programme. The panel recommends funding as requested.
