Project Details
Between consensus and fidelitas. Political elites in the Frankish-German realm (02)
Subject Area
Medieval History
Term
from 2016 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 257731206
The sub-project examines the mutual dependency between ruler and political elites in the Frankish-German realm from Carolingian times up to the 12th century especially addressing the tensions arising from the fact that members of the elite – both secular and ecclesiastic – participated in royal Herrschaft, e.g. as counsellors and at the same time could wield Herrschaft themselves, often in a regional context. Thereby the project aims to further hone research concepts such as ‘Fürstenverantwortung’ and ‘Consensual Rule’.
