Term
from 2016 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 298736690
The automotive, shipbuilding and aircraft industry demands lightweight construction materials, which combine high strength and high elongation to failure as well as weldability and high corrosion and fatigue resistance. Therefore, this study aims to provide the metallurgical knowledge to tailor the corrosion and fatigue resistance of the high-strength and weldable 7xxx-aluminum alloys 7020 and 7021.50 by correlating these properties to the microstructure. Within this project the selected alloys 7020 and 7021.50 will be extruded as full-round profiles and determined heat treated to analyze the microstructural evolution and the optimum properties profile concerning corrosion and fatigue.
