Electronic monitoring of near- and supercritical water based metal oxide nano-particle precipitation within ceramic micro-reaction systems

Subject Area Technical Chemistry
Term from 2016 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 274353615

The main objective of the submitted project is to gain sound knowledge about chemical mechanisms, phase transition phenomena as well as nucleation and growth processes of metal oxide nanoparticles by using miniaturized sensors in combination with (further developed) simulation methods in reactive flow systems. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to realize a micro-reactor for the synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles in near- / supercritical water, optimized with regard to sensor technology, flow control and residence time. For this purpose, the micro-reaction system must be optimized in such a way that the system is equipped with a large number of sensors, so that electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) can be used to monitor: a) the mixing process, b) the reaction process in (multi-phase) flows, and c) particle formation and growth with spatial and temporal resolution.
