Project Details
Ancient bombardment of the inner solar system - Reinvestigation of the "fingerprints" of different impactor populations (A03+)
Subject Area
Geodesy, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, Cartography
Term
from 2016 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 263649064
Examining the shapes of lunar crater size¿frequency distributions will help identify the source regions of the projectiles within the solar system and improve our understanding of a potential time-variable crater production function. To achieve these objectives, this subproject includes detailed geologic mapping, high-resolution crater size¿frequency measurements, and the application of new approaches of GIS spatial analyses. These tools are used to investigate the processes subsequently modifying the original crater distributions and to validate the suitability of the regions previously used to analyze crater size¿frequency distributions.
