The project proposal aims at the development of a system for the instrumental prediction and diagnosis of transmitted-speech quality. It transfers the results of two prior DFG projects that have researched diagnostic quality attributes of speech transmission systems in order to make them applicable to industrial products (transfer project). The proposal is based on two ideas: First, it determines speech quality as a multidimensional construct and predicts the underlying perceptual dimensions; second, it identifies potential technical causes of impairments and estimates them from the speech signal. Taken together, the two ideas provide both technical causes and auditory correlates of speech transmission impairments. The project results form the basis for two international standards to be issued by the International Telecommunication Union and will be transferred by the industry partners into a new measurement system.
