ffects of heterogeneous sea ice properties on radiative energy fluxes and its influence on Arctic amplification (C01)

Subject Area Atmospheric Science
Oceanography
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 268020496

We investigate the seasonal changes of solar radiative transfer between atmosphere, sea ice and ocean depending on sea ice properties. These studies rely on radiation measurements covering different temporal scales and range from local (ground-based) to regional (aircraft) and Arctic-wide observations (satellite). Based on these data, simplified descriptions of the surface reflection and the radiative transfer between atmosphere and sea ice into the ocean are developed and implemented in climate models
