Remote sensing of aerosols and their properties in the Arctic from satellite observations (B02)

Subject Area Atmospheric Science
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 268020496

Aerosols are suspensions of particles, dispersed in air. Dependent on their chemical composition, they scatter and/or absorb sunlight and thereby cool or warm the earth’s atmosphere and its surface. They also provide a surface in the atmosphere, on which ice or liquid cloud droplets nucleate and grow. In B02 we use satellite observations to study the optical properties of aerosol to assess their direct and indirect roles in climate change during the period of Arctic amplification.
