ors for enantiodiscrimination. Lastly, the Anslyn/Schmidtchen team will aggressively recruit underrepresented minorities into our joint program through an active ¿Bridges to the PhD Program¿ that currently exists at the University of Texas. We envision leveraging this program with this NSF-DFG application by recruiting the minorities into the graduate program at the University of Texas by offering the attractive notion of a six month research position in Germany. This is a novel aspect of our joint program, because students of Hispanic and African decent are almost completely absent in German graduate chemistry programs. Our collaboration is unique in this regard because of the abnormally high population of Hispanic and African students already in the Anslyn research group. The ability to recruit more minorities is facilitated by the already high number of minorities in the Anslyn group. Coupling this fact with the eligibility of work in Germany due to this joint NSF-DFG proposal will be a powerful recruiting tool.
