The overarching goals of this grant application are essentially those of the previous applications: FID-Ost wants to support current and future German research in the humanities and social sciences on Eastern and Southeastern Europe on several levels: on the one hand through services for direct use by academia, on the other hand through services for other libraries and information facilities and finally through structural support of the German research landscape on Eastern and Southeastern Europe. To achieve these goals, existing services are to be expanded and consolidated. In addition, some more exploratory approaches are being pursued to make FID materials available and reusable for research projects in the best possible way. Using AI for automatic metadata enrichment and for automatic text recognition of manuscripts and prints in rare scripts. 2022-2024 FID-Ost will also focus on public relations and national and international networking. These goals are pursued within eight specific work areas: 1.) Acquisition & supraregional provision of traditional commercial information resources (print and electronic materials: books, periodicals, databases & more) 2.) Acquisition and archiving of free information resources (e-books and e-journals in open access, websites & more) 3.) Digitizing & publishing (expansion of the OstDok open access repository: digitalization on demand, hybrid publications and born-digital publications, publication of topic dossiers and ego documents) 4.) Expansion of metadata (catalog enrichment and expansion of the cooperative article database ARTOS) 5.) The FID research gateway osmikon: expansion of content, technical renewal 6.) Cooperations: FID as part of the FID-system, networks, cooperation with German institutions, internationalization 7.)
