We propose to investigate the electronic structure of cuprates superconductors by means of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy at ultra-low temperatures. We will focus on those materials for which precise quantitative information on low-energy electron dynamics can be extracted and subsequently used to test theories. Special attention will be paid to possible presence of density waves coexisting or competing with the superconductivity. In particular, charge-density wave order observed by several methods in several families of p- and n-doped cuprates will be studied aiming to understand its possible interrelation with pseudogap, antiferromagnetic fluctuations and superconductivity. Systematic studies of fine details of the electronic structure across generic phase diagrams are anticipated to identify the key ingredients of the superconductivity and provide possible practical routes for a targeted synthesis of new materials.
