The Magia autographa project investigates the roles of scribes, owners, readers, collectors and other involved parties in the production and use of Jewish magic manuscripts from early modern to modern times. In particular, the project will examine the manuscripts as unique and personalised collections of recipes and instructions for magical practices. It will also take the manuscripts’ relationship to printed handbooks of magic into consideration. In a diachronic perspective, the project will look at continuity and transformation in the production of Jewish magic manuscripts.
