The activation speed of the different G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) varies considerably. It has to be taken into account, however, that our present knowledge on the activation speed is most likely biased by methodological limitations. Using three newly established optical techniques the activation speed of all isoforms of metabotropic glutamate receptor GPCR constructs will be analyzed, thereby exploiting Förster Resonance Energy Transfer in specific receptor constructs. Moreover, in adenosine receptors the kinetics of ligand binding will be studied.
