Media reflections: Threat discourse and the American order since the attacks of September 11, 2001 (G07)
Subject Area
Modern and Contemporary History
Term
from 2015 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 170320015
Project G07 uses the insights gained in the second period on the threat communication caused by 9/11 to analyse the ‘Trump Shock’. As an interwoven analysis of contemporary historical and media research will show, the ideas of order and threat that have persisted in the USA since 2001 were easily updated through the use of political and medial disruption, and led to affective intensification and epistemic insecurities in the 2016 election campaign that made Trump's election and his subsequent political action possible.
