Project Details
Mono Ethylene Glycol based Cryogenic Lubricants for Cutting Processes (T02*)
Subject Area
Metal-Cutting and Abrasive Manufacturing Engineering
Energy Process Engineering
Energy Process Engineering
Term
from 2015 to 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 172116086
Aim of this transfer project is to investigate the possibilities to enhance the productivity of cutting processes by applying Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) based cutting fluids at cryogenic temperatures. They combine the advantages of conventional cutting liquids (possibility of additivation, lubricating effect, good heat transfer, bulk cooling, possibility of closed loop operation) and already known cryogenic cutting fluids (low temperatures, high cooling effect). This innovative cutting fluid will be studied by turning conventional and high performance materials as an example. Special attention is given to the quality of the produced component surfaces.
