The stable numerical coupling of space and time discretization in an interior domain with discretizations of nontrivial (e.g., dynamical, nonlocal transparent, local absorbing, or impedance) boundary conditions in problems of wave propagation is the central topic of this research project. We consider materials that are in addition nonlocal in time. Prominent examples are viscoelastic material laws for wave equations or Maxwell equations with nonlocal polarization.
