Project Details
The resolution of chronic epithelial inflammation by L-arginine therapy (C04)
Subject Area
Parasitology and Biology of Tropical Infectious Disease Pathogens
Term
from 2015 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 261193037
Project C04 revealed that supplementation of drinking water with L-arginine caused resolution of chronic inflammation in preclinical mouse models of colitis and cutaneous leishmaniasis. The aim of the project is to unravel the mechanisms underlying this finding by investigating the L-arginine-dependent effects on immune and epithelial cells, metabolism and microbiota. To test whether L-arginine is also suitable as a new adjuvant therapy of the respective human diseases, patients with inflammatory bowel disease or cutaneous leishmaniasis will receive oral L-arginine as a dietary supplement.
