Modulating visual and sensorimotor biases for attention

Applicant Dr. Paul Taylor
Subject Area Biological Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience
Term from 2015 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 263727500

One core element at the heart of active perception is an interaction between perception, memory and response selection. Previous work has shown that to accurately study such effects of attention on perception requires considering the response context. But there is only scarce direct evidence as to which brain areas are involved with weighting perceptual processing according to response demands in these tasks. Our recent work has used combined TMS-ERP to demonstrate that parietal and frontal regions play a causal role in integrating perceptual, memory and response-related information. The objectives of this proposal are to characterise the content of these representations, how they can vary over time, and whether different representations exist in different areas for different purposes.
