Visual computing methods need to provide high-quality results with high computational efficiency to allow for the detailed exploration of large-scale data. In the second funding period, we will quantify, model, and predict various characteristics that have a substantial impact on user experience. With this, we will analyze inherent tradeoffs, compare alternative methods, and optimize the system’s behavior. We will also put particular emphasis on emerging visual computing application scenarios of increasing importance, namely in situ visualization and virtual reality.
