Subject Area

Term
from 2015 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 252080619
In the second phase, the project will examine the early-modern novel with respect to how narration considers and comments on contemporary cultural practices of decision-making, as understood as a historically changeable form of social action. The spectrum of decision-making modes to be found in the early-modern novel stretches from internalised, individual monologues about decisions, through institutionalised forms of collective decision-making and counselling, to externalised decision-making. The central questions will be about which ways decision-making is narratively depicted and which functions it fulfils in the narratives.
