Project Details
GRK 767: Transcriptional Control in Developmental Processes
Subject Area
Basic Research in Biology and Medicine
Term
from 2002 to 2010
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 273413
Understanding the molecular basis of transcriptional regulation and tissue-specific gene expression during development is a central goal of modern biology. It is the aim of the Marburg/Giessen-Rotterdam European research training group "Transcriptional Control in Developmental Processes" to study major aspects of transcriptional control in developmental processes by using different model organisms. These studies will also contribute to our understanding of human development, health and disease. The research program is based on already existing collaborations between groups in Marburg/Giessen and Rotterdam as well as scientifically closely related projects.
Within the framework of the program the researchers in Rotterdam and Marburg/Giessen will implement a new joint teaching and training program. Doctoral students working in Marburg/Giessen and Rotterdam will participate in already existing teaching programs and research schools in Rotterdam and in a research training group in Marburg/Giessen that has to be established. The research and teaching program includes regular exchanges of academic staff and Ph.D. students. Annual joint workshops will have a central role. The group Marburg/Giessen-Rotterdam will create an excellent educational environment stimulating scientific and personal skills of its members.
