Subject Area

Term
from 2002 to 2005
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 273401
Basic aim of our research training group is the theoretical fundingof numerical and applied mathematics. Starting with purelytheoretical investigations (Theory of Function Spaces, PDE,Approximation Theory, Metric Entropy) we treat concrete problems fromthe Theory of Pattern Perception or from Discrete Optimization. Thoseresults are applied to problems in Mathematics of Finance, to highdimensional problems in Numerical Analysis or to the Theory ofFractals. Besides a demanding educational program (at least 8 hourslectures per week, seminars etc.) and special invited talks of guestswe yearly organize a workshop and an Autumn school with alternatingtopics.
