GRK 729: Elementary Particle Physics at the TeV Scale
Subject Area
Condensed Matter Physics
Term
from 2001 to 2010
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 273353
The structure of the interaction of fundamental particles at distances of 10^{-18} m to 10^{-19} m will be investigated.
These distances correspond to reaction energies in the TeV range. The experimentalists want to study this question mainly using the CMS (Compact Magnetic Solenoid) detector at the Large Hadron Collider LHC at CERN. Central goals are the study of electroweak symmetry breaking, the search for new particles as predicted e.g. in supersymmetric theories and the study of CP violation. The theoretical research will also concentrate on these topics. Predictions for high energy reactions will be developed using the framework of the standard theory and its extensions. In addition we plan experimental and theoretical contributions to the European project of a large electron positron linear collider (TESLA).
