The goal of the research training group "Contact Area Mare Balticum: Foreignness and Integration in the Baltic Region" is to enhance students¿ enthusiasm for the subject, while training them for productive scholarship. The programme is designed for Ph.D. students in Philosophy, Psychology, Scandinavian Languages and Literatures, Slavic Languages and Literatures, Baltic Languages and Literatures, Art History, History and Law, and treats foreignness as an intellectual, cultural and social phenomenon. Key questions are: foreignness in (Baltic) thought and factors of integration, perception of foreigners/foreignness and cultural transformation, perception of foreigners/foreignness and integration in historical perspective.
