Project Details
GRK 588: Combinatorics, Geometry, and Computation
Subject Area
Mathematics
Term
from 2000 to 2005
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 272973
This European research training group combines in an interdisciplinaryfashion aspects of discrete mathematics and computer science. Itsscientific program ranges from more theoretical areas likecombinatorics and discrete geometry to application areas like computergraphics or geographic information systems. The program is subdividedinto four basic research areas: combinatorics, geometry, optimization, and algorithms and computation. In each of these areas at least one ofthe partners in the program is an internationally renowned center ofexpertise. Ph.D. students have the possiblity to gain knowledge ineach of the four areas, particularly also through a long term stay(6-12 months) at a partner university during the second year of theirstudies. The existing cooperation between the main partners "Berlin"and "Zurich" will be extended by other partner institutes in Belgium,Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, the Czech Republic, andHungary.
