Subject Area

Term
from 1998 to 2004
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 272509
Object of the research training group is to investigate the creative process in the arts. Doctoral theses on related topics are supported. The study program consists of a series of public lectures and a weekly research colloquium as well as additional discussions with artists, workshops, conferences, and excursions. We regard the process of artistic production as equally important as the artworks and their reception, making the creative process the object of our research. This process is subject to historical change, follows specific laws and takes on different forms, all of which are very rarely discussed. Our research starts mainly from an empiric basis, looking at selected cases. It is our aim to develop theoretically innovative approaches for an interdisciplinary and historical typology of the creative process, shedding new light on the relationship between "theory" and "practice" in the arts.
