The research training group "Representation - Rhetoric - Knowledge" sponsors projects in issues of representation, aesthetics, rhetoric, politics, and philosophy of scientific thought. The program at the Europa-Universität Viadrina offers weekly topics classes and discussions of doctoral work; it also includes workshops, guest lectures, and 2 - 4 conferences a year.The program is part of a trilateral doctoral and post-doctoral scheme, shared by the Heinrich von Kleist Institute for Literature and Politics, Europa-Universität Frankfurt/Oder (Anselm Haverkamp, Werner Schiffauer, Christoph Menke, directors), the Poetics and Theory Institute, New York University (Eva Geulen, Anselm Haverkamp, Michèle Lowry, directors), and the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (Hent de Vries, Mieke Bal, Thomas Elsaesser, directors). The participants are enabled to develop their dissertational and post-dissertational projects within a frame of international exchange, and to spend part of their time as members of the research training group at one of the leading universities in the US.
