GRK 244: 3D Image Analysis and Synthesis
Subject Area
Computer Science
Term
from 1996 to 2004
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 271163
The research training group "3D Image Analysis and Synthesis" consists of aninterdisciplinary research and tutoring program with emphasis in 3Dimage data acquisition, analysis and synthesis, as well as their application to medicine and engineering. Students from seven different fields of study work cooperatively on topics of mutual interest.Technological development has made possible the use of accurate,high-resolution image data in communications technology, computer science, manufacturing engineering and medicine, bringing forth novel, economically interesting products. The key to useful applications and further progress lies in the scientific evaluation of the underlying principles, e.g., sensors' physical properties, and the reliability, precision and complexity of processing algorithms. The University of Erlangen-Nueremberg offers an excellent research environment for the research training group due to its numerous institutes, industrial cooperation and research projects at hand. Public seminars held by the Center's Ph.D. students and special courses guarantee information exchange among the Center's fellows and general academia. Also, presentations at international conferences and frequent visits by renowned scientists to Erlangen ensure the world-class quality of the research conducted at the research training group for 3D Image Analysis and Synthesis.
