Determinants of Social Isolation
Applicant
Dr. Jan Eckhard
Subject Area
Empirical Social Research
Term
from 2014 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 267156871
The project involves research on the disparities and determinants of social isolation based on panel data. Social isolation is defined as an absence of personal relationships. The first phase of research brought out new insights on the predictors of social isolation in Germany. The second period of the project is concerned with the question whether the influencing factors of social isolation and their outcome depend on contextual conditions, such as social policy, social inequality, or culture. Data are retrieved from the European Community Household Panel and from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe. This is the fist project to analyse determinants of social isolation in an international perspective by using international panel data and panel-regression.
