The simulation of very large systems of particles belongs to the big challenges in high-performance computing (HPC). A homogeneous distribution of the compute load on the compute nodes is essential. For heterogeneous, highly dynamic systems within the SFB, this requires complex and sophisticated methods which can adapt to changes in the load distribution. This new project studies and develops advanced methods for load balancing to be able to simulate dynamic and heterogeneous scenarios with large particle numbers on high-performance computers.
