Project Details
Neutron scattering on frustrated quantum magnets (C03)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2015
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 247310070
In this project, elastic and inelastic neutron scattering on single crystals and powder samples will be used to study magnetic properties of quantum magnets that host exotic ground states resulting from magnetic frustration. The aim of the project is to understand emergent low-temperature phases, such as quantum spin liquids and noncollinear spin structures, as well as fractionalized magnetic excitations, in several representative frustrated materials via their magnetic fluctuation spectrum. Our experimental methods will include conventional neutron diffraction and small-angle scattering, triple-axis and time-of-flight neutron spectroscopy with unpolarized and polarized neutrons, including measurements at sub-kelvin temperatures and in magnetic field.
