Project Details
Materials synthesis under high pressure (B02)
Subject Area
Solid State and Surface Chemistry, Material Synthesis
Term
from 2015 to 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 247310070
This project targets the synthesis and crystal growth of spin-frustrated magnetic materials, which require high-pressure and high-temperature growth conditions, using so-called large-volume techniques. Materials that belong to different crystal structure classes known to exhibit geometric frustration, in particular pyrochlores, spinels, and perovskite-type compounds will be examined and new representatives of these classes will be sought and realized. These materials shall include building blocks from three important classes of magnetic elements, i.e. rare earths, selected 3d elements, and heavy 5d transition metals with strong spin-orbit coupling such as Ir and Os.
