The objective of this research program is to establish a new generation of light-responsive molecular machines and supramolecular systems that provide unprecedented photocontrol over completely novel types of directional motions, set new standards for the speed of light powered molecular motors, and greatly expand applicability of HTI tweezers by enabling photoresponsive recognition on the basis of hydrogen bonding and dynamic covalent chemistry.
