Project Details
Three-dimensional modelling and efficient numerical treatment of contact between solids and fluids (B06)
Subject Area
Mechanical Properties of Metallic Materials and their Microstructural Origins
Term
from 2014 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 236616214
The efficient computational contact and flow model from funding period one will be extended during the second funding period. The mechanical modeling will additionally consider the flexibility of the mould, deformation dependent surface tension, frictional contact and transient inertia effects of the melt flow. Furthermore, heat conduction, heat transfer and the resulting solidification will be integrated into the model. New boundary-element methods will be developed in order to provide an efficient computational description of the thermo-mechanical behavior of the melt flow. The extended model will then be used to simulate and study the applications of other subprojects (such as injection molding and soldering).
