Project Details
The functional impact of dipeptide metabolism in protection from reactive metabolite induced, late diabetes complications (C05)
Subject Area
Endocrinology, Diabetology, Metabolism
Term
from 2014 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 236360313
Dipeptide (DP) research thus far has focused on carnosine. Recent own data demonstrates organ specific, modifiable DP profiles; several DP predict diabetic nephropathy in mice. CN1 metabolizes carnosine; the substrate spectrum of CN2 is broad. CN2-KO results in DP accumulation and amino acid depletion. We now demonstrate the impact of CN2 in global and endothelial specific CN2 KO mice. The function of predictive DP will be characterized in vitro and the therapeutic potential of the identified candidates will be evaluated in diabetic zebrafish and mice. Biosamples of interventional clinical trial of the CRC will undergo gender specific DP profiling (100 DP).
